Akatsi Market is one of the busiest trading centres in the Volta Region of Ghana. It brings together traders and buyers from Akatsi township, surrounding villages, and travellers moving between Aflao, Ho, and Accra.

Market days

Peak activity is typically on Tuesdays and Fridays, but many vendors also open daily. Arrive early — the freshest produce usually sells out before midday.

How the market is arranged

The market is loosely organised by section: foodstuffs, fresh vegetables, fish and meat, clothing and fabric, livestock, and building materials. Cooked food and refreshments are available near the main entrances.

Getting there

Trotros and shared taxis operate to and from the Akatsi lorry station near the market. From Accra, expect a journey of 2 to 3 hours depending on traffic.

What to buy

Fresh farm produce, palm oil, gari, kente cloth, ready-made clothing, livestock, phones, and building materials are all widely available. Prices are typically negotiable.
